Biographical Sketch - Stanley I. Simkins

Stan serves as the Director of the Capital Region Family Business Resource Center in Albany and formerly served as Director of the Family Business Institute at Siena College in Loudonville, NY (near Albany). The Center serves as a venue to bring family businesses together to deal with the unique challenges facing family-owned and operated businesses.  It provides a series of seminars, workshops, affinity group meetings, and a newsletter for its family business members.  As well as being an occasional speaker, Stan serves as a producer and facilitator for the various meetings and seminars.   Stan was the television host of the Tuesday Edition of Schenectady Today, a TV show featuring interviews with small business owners, which airs on Channel 16 through the Schenectady Access Cable Council (2003-2004). He was also the recipient of the Small Business Administration’s “Family Business Champion” for 2004.

Stan has been intimately involved with family businesses for over 4 decades as a management and financial advisor to hundreds of businesses including the founding and operation of his own businesses.  Previously, Stan was the Managing Partner of his own CPA firm that he founded in 1973 and sold in 1983. Stan no longer practices as a CPA (Inactive).

In 1980, Stan founded, and served as President, of a microcomputer software development company that he sold in 1986.  During his 30-year professional career, Stan also served as the Chief Financial Officer for a large import distribution company, and Vice President of Operations for a multi-entity manufacturer.

Stan was the guest lecturer to the five Family Business Chapters in Australia during 1999 conducting several workshops for not only family businesses, but also for other professionals advisors to family businesses. Stan has also appeared as a weekly, featured expert on WRGB-TV (Channel 6) as "The Business Doctor" with Jack Aernecke in 1991-1992 presenting on a variety of business management topics, and hosted a public access television show in Schenectady, NY featuring local business owners (2004-2005).
